My Random Thoughts for Today

I am getting excited for opening day this Friday at Progressive Field.  I wish I was getting as excited about the entire baseball season.  I say 77 wins this season which is optimistic, Vegas is at 71.5.  The over is worth a bet if you have the extra cash.  See you at Pick Wick about 10 AM.

Really miss free agency this football off season.  No free agency makes the draft a lot harder to predict.  We all think we are Mel Kiper at this time of year.  Teams usually use free agency to address their needs and fill the gaps at the draft.  I believe that teams will be willing to traded this years picks for future picks.  Some teams will buy in that this will be a wasted year of football with it looking more like no true off season.

Don't know about you, but I am still pissed at Jim Tressel.  I do believe it is time for him to resign.  This may help him with some player, but will turn off many parents to him.  All the focus is on the 5 players he allegedly supported, but what about all the players he let down?

Now that the Bucks are gone, I am rooting for UCONN to win it all.  That pretty much puts the maloik on them.  Sorry UCONN.

I am itching to go play golf.  I will probably regret it after 2 or 3 holes though.  Northeast Ohio is a great place to live if you like to golf.  So many options of places to play.  The only drawback is a gave up beer for Lent, and that is usually the best part of my game.

The US economy is a mess.  We need to bite the bullet and balance the budget.  The economy will get better over time, but the whole we are digging will be so massive it may not matter.

Don't Blame Sully

There is plenty of blame to go around regarding the Buckeyes loss,  but none for Jared Sullinger.  Sullinger did his best to clean up the missed shots and fight through the constant double teams.  The Buckeyes shot a pathetic 33% from the field.  Take away Sullingers 7 for 14 shooting and it is down to 27%.  Very hard to win basketball games when you shoot that bad.  To the Buckeyes credit, they stayed in the game and had a chance to win on a good look three point attempt on the games final possession.  John Diebler, who also shot 50% from the field was covered like a blanket all night.  Without a true ability to create his own shot, Diebler was limited on his shot attempts.  Now the guys that did have the open looks, Buford, Lighty and Craft shot a miserable 7 for 33, for 21%.  We did see periods during the year where these three struggled with shooting, but we were not playing Kentucky, a very good, athletic team.

I think Thad Matta had an off night as a coach, and wishes he had a mulligan.  Deshaun Thomas should have gotten more playing time with the struggles the Bucks were having shooting.  Thomas proved during the season that he can come in at spots and be instant offense.  His future with the Buckeyes is very bright.  He got a couple minutes in the first half, with only one shot attempt.  In my opinion that was the only option available, but Thad chose to ride the horses that got him here.

All in all it was a very exciting basketball season.  The future is bright for the Buckeyes, especially if Sullinger stays to his word and returns to Ohio State next year.  Their are five new recruits next year with four being in the ESPN top one hundred.  You can check out the class here http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/194 .

Well that's my opinion, whats yours?
