Don't Blame Sully

There is plenty of blame to go around regarding the Buckeyes loss,  but none for Jared Sullinger.  Sullinger did his best to clean up the missed shots and fight through the constant double teams.  The Buckeyes shot a pathetic 33% from the field.  Take away Sullingers 7 for 14 shooting and it is down to 27%.  Very hard to win basketball games when you shoot that bad.  To the Buckeyes credit, they stayed in the game and had a chance to win on a good look three point attempt on the games final possession.  John Diebler, who also shot 50% from the field was covered like a blanket all night.  Without a true ability to create his own shot, Diebler was limited on his shot attempts.  Now the guys that did have the open looks, Buford, Lighty and Craft shot a miserable 7 for 33, for 21%.  We did see periods during the year where these three struggled with shooting, but we were not playing Kentucky, a very good, athletic team.

I think Thad Matta had an off night as a coach, and wishes he had a mulligan.  Deshaun Thomas should have gotten more playing time with the struggles the Bucks were having shooting.  Thomas proved during the season that he can come in at spots and be instant offense.  His future with the Buckeyes is very bright.  He got a couple minutes in the first half, with only one shot attempt.  In my opinion that was the only option available, but Thad chose to ride the horses that got him here.

All in all it was a very exciting basketball season.  The future is bright for the Buckeyes, especially if Sullinger stays to his word and returns to Ohio State next year.  Their are five new recruits next year with four being in the ESPN top one hundred.  You can check out the class here http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/school/_/id/194 .

Well that's my opinion, whats yours?
